Did you know that...

The word for cuff, is manschett in swedish and Manschette in german and these words have their origin in the the french word manchette which is the diminutive form of the word for sleeve - manche. The cuff is the part that ends the sleeve and it has during the last few centuries been changed in shape and form several times. During the barock and rococo periods the cuffs were often made out of lace and in the early 1900s the cuffs were often starched and detachable. Today the cuff is usually much softer and always sewn onto the sleeve.

There are various designs and cuts of the cuff itself. The most common version is a plain cuff with a single button. The more stylish double cuff is folded and buttoned with cuffinks that are often smartly designed (see above). A very popular version is a cuff with two buttons and two holes which makes it convertible and can be used with or without cufflinks. We call it simply "convertible".
